Clean & responsible. The City of Houston is working hard to reduce costs and save valuable landfill air space. Each year tons of leaves, grass clippings and small branches are needlessly tossed into landfills. The recycling of your yard trimmings is easy to do and good for our environment. Compostable bags allow for more efficient collection and they break down quickly leaving no harmful residue behind. Remember, only place yard trimmings in City of Houston-approved compostable bags and place at the curb on your scheduled collection day. Only organic material (i.e., leaves, grass clippings and small branches) should be placed in the compostable bag, and do not use metal, plastic or foreign ties to seal the bag. Please keep in mind that the compostable bags begin to "break down" as soon as material is placed into them so be sure to get them to the curb within a week. BioBags are compostable, which means our bags will decompose naturally when exposed to micro-organisms that live in the earth's soil. Per the ASTM D6400 standard, BioBag products can be composted when placed in a municipal or commercial composting facility leaving behind no harmful residue. Mater-Bi.
