Build Your Own Grilled Pizza #festfoods

There is nothing better than the marriage of two of your favorite things.  In my case, it’s pizza {I think everyone can agree with that} and grilling! We show you how to make it happen in this segment for WFRV's Local 5 Live:

 

I’m tossing fresh wheat pizza dough on a hot grill with tangy tomato sauce, olives and pepperoni, and of course, CHEESE!  That’s what’s so great about pizza; you can put whatever toppings you want on your half.  And did I say plenty of cheese?!

Build Your Own Grilled Pizza

Ingredients:

1 (16 oz.) fresh wheat pizza dough, from our bakery

3 Tbsp. olive oil

½ cup pizza sauce

½ cup turkey pepperoni

½ cup Canadian bacon

½ cup mushrooms

½ cup sliced olives

2 cups mozzarella cheese  

Directions:

  1. Remove plastic lid from pizza dough.  Allow to sit at room temperature for 60 minutes.  Preheat grill to medium heat.
  2. Once dough has risen, place it on a flat, hard surface and drizzle with one tablespoon oil.  Work with your hands to stretch the pizza dough to desired size and thickness.  Brush top of dough with one tablespoon oil; place directly on hot grill grates, oiled side down.  Close grill lid and cook about 3 minutes or until the dough starts to bubble.  Brush remaining oil on top side and flip, using grill spatula.  Quickly dress pizza with sauce, desired toppings and cheese.  Close grill lid and cook until cheese is melted and bubbly.  Remove pizza from grill; slice and serve.
