‘Twas the week of Christmas,
And all through the state
Families made grocery lists,
And shopped for food to fill their Christmas dinner plate.
The stores were decorated with red, green, and gold
To spread holiday cheer
And Christmas music was playing overhead,
For all to hear.
The shelves were stocked full,
Associates filled the aisles
Ready to greet, serve, and assist guests,
While wearing festive uniforms and smiles.
Guests wandered the aisles
Filling their carts with milk, eggs, and bread
Then added fruit trays, candy canes, chocolates, and beverages
To prepare for the celebrations ahead.
French Fried onions, egg nog, cookies, and more
Were checked off the list one by one
As families moved quickly
To get their grocery shopping done.
When their lists were completed,
And carts filled to the top
Guests approached the checkouts,
Excited this was their last stop!
The checkouts sparkled with garland, greens, and ornaments
Staffed by cashiers and baggers grinning from ear to ear
Who were eager to help guests
During the most wonderful time of the year!
“How are you?” “Merry Christmas!”
“Enjoy your family time!”
Were the conversations that could be heard
At any checkout line.
By 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve
The store was empty — what a sight!
Before turning off the lights and locking the doors, employees could be heard shouting
“Merry Christmas to all … and to all a good night!”
