As I was leaving our Festival Foods Darboy store earlier today, the sounds of the bell ringing confirmed that the holidays are just around the corner. I love the holiday season, but preparing for the holidays takes time…and a lot of it! If only I could extend the number of hours in the day like the mall does during the holidays!
Since I can’t make each day 28 hours long for the next 8 weeks, something always ends up getting cut out of my schedule. Unfortunately, the first thing to get placed on the back burner is exercise. Exercise is the last thing that I should be eliminating not only because it will help counter the additional calories that I will likely consume, but also because exercise energizes me.
Part of the reason I have de-prioritized exercise in the past is because it takes away from “family time”. But this year, instead of using family time as an excuse for not exercising we have started running together as a family. I have to admit, I am more of a jogger than a runner, but considering in high school I struggled to run a mile and this past year I completed two half marathons I am very proud of my accomplishment!
Our most recent family exercise event was the Freaky 5k in Appleton. Our next family run we have signed up for is the Festival Foods Turkey Trot. The excitement that these events create in our family motivates me to continue to exercise…especially during the busiest times. And not only does it benefit my family to participate in events like this, but it also benefits the local community. The proceeds from the Festival Food Turkey Trot, for example, go to our local Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCAs.
I hope you and your family can participate in your local Turkey Trot too! If you haven’t registered, there is still time! Just visit www.festivalfoodsturkeytrot.com to sign up or find more information! Hope to see and your whole family there!
