The Superbowl of Competitive Bagging

|

The excitement surrounding the WGA Great Wisconsin Bag-Off had been building for two months. Our field, which started with over 100 baggers, had been narrowed down to the top four baggers from our Skogen’s Festival Foods stores.

On September 22nd, the big day finally arrived! Tanner Deml (Holmen), Jordan Devalk (Darboy), Jonathan Schwartzkopf (Northland), and Jared Seidel (Marshfield), along with their Festival entourage, traveled to Milwaukee to compete in this year’s Best Bagger Competition. As competition time grew near and the crowd of spectators began to grow, so too did the passion and nerves of our contestants and their cheering squad. Typically, when you are bagging in our stores, all of the guests in the store are not focused solely on you and yelling (I mean cheering) at you to go faster.

This year, a total of fourteen baggers from various grocery retailers across Wisconsin competed in the 2010 WGA Great Wisconsin Bag-off. Our very own Tanner Deml, finished in 2nd place winning him a $250 cash prize and a trophy. Stephanie Teteak, from Larry’s Piggly Wiggly, took 1st place and will be representing Wisconsin in the National Best Bagger Contest in February.

Congratulations to all who competed in this event! I am so proud of our team’s efforts. Although winning is nice, it’s not everything. I think the experiences and relationships that were built and strengthened as a result of this event make it priceless! Our Festival team will be back in 2011.
