Specialty Cheese for Fall...
|

One of my favorite seasons happens to be fall.  Beautiful scenery and time to think about those comfort foods that warm the home and soul. I look at the changing trees and think orange, yellow, and green.  Funny how that can relate to some wonderful foods to dress any table for that special occasion whether it be holiday entertaining, a  sporting event get together, or family time on Sundays. Apples and pears are a natural with just about any cheese. Arranging a platter with slices of different colored apples and various cheddar cheeses is as simple as it gets, yet people gobble this up so fast you need product ready to fill again for they will be looking for more. Black Creek Cheddar aged to your liking along with various flavors of Great Midwest Cheddars such as Cranberry, Mango Fire, and Apple Cinnamon are all made in Wisconsin and are absolutely delightful!  Blue cheese and pears will make a wonderful appetizer served with any wine. One of my favorite blue cheese is the Castello Soft Blue we carry in our deli specialty cheese section.  A platter arranged with pear slices, blue cheese wedge, dried cranberries, dried apricots, and almonds is sure to impress any guest. Let’s warm things up a bit and keep it easy.  This next fall recipe idea can be an appetizer or a vegetable side dish. Take zucchini or yellow squash, slice and arrange on a jelly roll pan sprayed with pan release. Coat slices in olive oil, top each slice with a small amount of either fresh or shredded mozzarella, Sprinkle lightly with garlic salt, onion powder, Mrs. Dash and crushed red pepper. Bake 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. Cheese is fun, easy, and the possibilities are endless so get creative and try something new!
