Get ready! The annual Festival Foods Turkey Trot is almost here! The 2015 Festival Foods Turkey Trot will be held at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26. Two distances are offered at the event – a five-mile run and a two-mile walk – in the communities of Appleton, Eau Claire, Fond du Lac, La Crosse, Manitowoc, Marshfield and Oshkosh. This year, the event in Green Bay has been re-routed to feature a four-mile run and a two-mile walk. “Each year it amazes me how much this event continues to impact the community. The energy of both running and walking participants, the leadership of the volunteers and the ongoing commitment from event sponsors truly bring our communities together for a fun-filled morning,” said Mark Skogen, President and CEO of Festival Foods. “We look forward to this year’s event and to continuing this tradition for many years to come.” Participants will enjoy the upbeat music, high-quality long-sleeved T-shirts and free Festival Foods pumpkin pies at the finish line that they can take home and enjoy with their family.
The Festival Foods Turkey Trot is the state’s largest running event based on registered participants. In 2014, approximately 33,850 people across the state laced up their running shoes on Thanksgiving morning to participate. Online registration is only $15 for children under 18 and $20 for adults from Sept. 15 through Oct. 31. This year’s event will again feature the Dog Jog, a separate group just for dogs and their owners. All proceeds benefit local Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs in the communities that host the Turkey Trot. Those organizations help provide volunteers in return for monetary proceeds. Volunteers offer a variety of services including taking pictures, helping with registration and distributing water and pies to participants. Over its seven-year history, the Turkey Trot has raised more than $1 million for local charities.
