Getting the right amount of fruits and vegetables into your day can seem impossible at times, am I right? Especially when you have a busy schedule or you’re trying to feed a picky eater (worse yet is when those two things are combined!). Quick to take on the go and ridiculously easy to customize, smoothies can be a perfect solution to help you out! Taking advantage of staple fruits such as frozen or fresh berries and bananas that might be past their prime, smoothies can be an economical way to add fruits and vegetables to your day! The addition of spinach and skim milk supercharge this fruit smoothie by adding fiber, protein, Calcium, and Vitamin D (to name a few things!). This is a sweet and creamy drink you can feel good about enjoying out in the sun or as a quick breakfast option on the go! To start the smoothie we are making here today, add half of your beautiful berries and chopped frozen banana to the blender. Next, add a generous handful of washed and dried spinach!
Throw in the rest of your fruit (yum, yum, yum).
And then top it all off with a cool dose of skim milk!
Finally, blend until smooth! It doesn’t get any easier than that! This smoothie is just one example of the basic concepts of smoothie making. To get a little more high-tech, try adding in more protein (nut butters, plain nonfat Greek yogurt), heart healthy fats (walnuts, avocado), and a wider variety of unsweetened fruits and vegetables such as kale, mango, cucumber, and/or pear; truly the possibilities are endless!
