Jay and Lauren

Did you know that Green Bay is the hometown of not one, but two world class and highly renowned soccer players? And- did you know that they both have very inspirational stories that they will share at the Meyer Theater in Green Bay?

If not- keep reading because this is a very big event and as a Board Member of Junior Achievement it is exciting for me to tell you all about it.

Jay DeMerit is a graduate of Bay Port High School and the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Jay presently is playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps and for the United States National team following a long and storied career playing professionally in Europe. He is known for overcoming long odds and playing hurt.  Jay began playing international soccer in 2007 and continues to this day.  He was an important member of the United States 2010 World Cup team playing in all four of the United States matches – the three first-round games, against England, Slovenia and Algeria and the second round match against Ghana, in South Africa.

Lauren Sesselmann is a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and Purdue University.  While at Purdue she set records for the Boilermakers in points, goals, assists, game-winning goals, multiple-goal games and shots on goal registered. She was also named First Team All-Big Ten in 2003 and 2005.  In 2009, Lauren was drafted by the Chicago Red Stars and now plays for the Atlanta Beat where she was converted from forward to defense.  Internationally, Lauren was called up to the Canadian National team and was named to the 18-player squad competing for Canada in the women’s football tournament at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara.

Junior Achievement is proud to present both Jay and Lauren the Meyer Theatre in Green Bay on Tuesday, December 27, 7pm as part of a fundraiser for JA in Brown County.

Entrepreneurship is what we teach in Junior Achievement and both Jay and Lauren can be called “sports entrepreneurs.”   Entrepreneurship is making something out of your passion & skills that meet a market need.  Against all odds (Green Bay is not a recognized hot-bed of world class soccer talent!) these two worked hard, really hard, stuck with it, took the tough road, and somehow finessed their way to the top of their sport at the highest levels.    They both have been and/or are captains of their teams today.  They are great role models for what we do at JA.

I am thankful for the businesses that provided support for this event and I would love to see all of you in the audience to hear these inspirational and exciting hometown speakers. Please join me in welcoming home Jay and Lauren by attending this once in a lifetime event.   Tickets are on sale now and are $15 for adults and $10 for children 15 & under.
