On Friday, April 15 we gathered for the groundbreaking of our sixteenth store, which will be located in the Village Shopping Center on State Road in La Crosse . The last store that we opened in the La Crosse area was our Copeland Avenue store in 2006, so it felt good to once again be back in our “home town” for a groundbreaking. Despite the blustery weather, we had a great turnout and were happy to see the faces of so many that helped us build our business. Attendees huddled inside the heated tent to hear a few words from my dad Chairman Dave Skogen, Mayor Harter, myself and Ken Kramer of TCI. After the construction update from Ken, we got the shovels out for the official groundbreaking. Check out the photos on our Facebook page, found in Photos and then in the La Crosse The Village folder. The new store will be approximately 70,000 square feet, which seems incredible considering that the Quillin’s store that occupied that lot was 35,000 square feet. The new store floor plan includes a Tot Spot, a “kitchen classics” meat department, a large natural and organic foods section, a healthy-choices salad bar, hot foods bar, an extensive deli and prepared foods department, and a wine and spirits shop. Additionally, guests will have access to the services of Associated Bank, a Degen Berglund pharmacy and our in-store Post Office. Seems like a lot to get in that space, but we’ll make it fit! If all goes as planned we will open that new store on 11-11-11. Dates like that are so rare that we couldn’t resist using it when planning this construction project! While the new store is being built, we are serving guest at the Mormon Coulee Road store. On April 4, Quillin’s closed that store for the last time. Our Festival associates, along with the Quillin’s team, were able to transform and reopen the store in a mere 36 hours. It is no easy feat to haul items out, rearrange shelves and displays, haul new items in and then put new tags on every single item in that short amount of time. The planning that went into the project was well thought out and then executed to perfection. A big thank you to all who were part of that process! The great team of associates at the Mormon Coulee Road store is ready to provide you our signature friendly service and amazing Festival products. If you haven’t done so, stop by and see what’s new! And don’t be surprised to see your favorite Quillin’s associate in a Festival uniform, as many of them have joined the Festival family!
