Fighting Holiday Stress

The holiday season, which begins for most people with Thanksgiving and continues through New Year’s Day, often brings some added stress. Maybe you’re faced with the challenge of entertaining/hosting the family Christmas party. In an effort to pull off the perfect holiday, you might find yourself facing the dizzying challenge of shopping, baking, cleaning and planning the party of all parties. I’m assuming many of you start planning your menu a few weeks out. If you haven’t warmed up to the idea of hearing Christmas music in the stores yet, imagine how your grocery and frozen/dairy teams at Festival Foods felt earlier this year. They started planning and ordering all of our holiday needs back in August! That’s right, when it was 80 degrees and sunny we were planning how much Cool Whip, Christmas candy, baking chips/chocolate, Pillsbury items, egg nog, pumpkin, etc. we would need to meet all of your holiday shopping needs. Would you believe that in the months of November and December last year we went through 148,283 eight oz. containers of Cool Whip! That’s roughly 200 pallets of Cool Whip! Almost ten semi truck loads!

It should come as no surprise that research shows most of the prep for holiday gatherings is done by women. A recent survey reported that women are more likely than men to report heightened stress levels during the holiday season, and they are less likely to take time to relax or manage stress in a healthy way. Why do I tell you this? Well the last time I looked there was no magic dust to sprinkle and have all of the food prepared and presents wrapped. It’s a good reminder for all of us to make sure we go home and thank our wives, mothers, sisters, fathers… or whoever handles the holiday prep for our families. We should let them know we appreciate their hard work. If you recognize some stress in the one you love you could offer to take a little something off of their list of things to do… perhaps go grocery shopping for them? Our friendly associates would be glad to help you maneuver through the store and find everything on your list. I hear all of you who do the regular shopping chuckling… that’s good… that was my plan! Laughing helps eliminate stress!

Thank you all for making Festival Foods your store of preference. On behalf of me and my entire team: we wish you all the best and hope you find time to enjoy the holiday season! Cheers.
