Festival Foods sends 4 to state bagging competition

big-bag The big day is almost here! And by ‘big day,’ we mean the state grocery bagging competition in Milwaukee. Four of Festival Foods’ best baggers will head to Wisconsin’s largest city on Wednesday for the state contest that is part of the Wisconsin Grocers Association annual meeting. Four Festival Foods representatives beat out the competition in regional contests we held in our stores across the state over the summer. Those winners competing in Milwaukee on Wednesday are:

  • Andrew Jarrett from our La Crosse-Village store
  • Rachel Richter from our Madison location
  • Regan Earny from our De Pere store
  • Cade Lambrecht from our Darboy location

bagging-collageThe winner of Wednesday’s statewide contest in Milwaukee will move on to the annual  national “Best Bagger” Contest in Las Vegas. And just like previous contests, participants are judged on everything from how quickly they can fill a bag to proper building technique (are cans and jars on the bottom?) to the distribution of weight between bags as well as their personal style, attitude and appearance. What goes into judging good baggers? Tesia explains:

Sheboygan Festival Foods associate Mai Her placed second in last year’s state contest after winning the Wisconsin competition the previous year. She competed in the national competition in 2015, placing fourth. Here’s what happened at the Great Wisconsin Bag-Off Contest last year:

You’ll get to watch the state bagging contest as it happens on Wednesday over on the Festival Foods’ Facebook page where we’ll be broadcasting all the action live, starting at 4 p.m. CST that day.
