A matching gift partnership between Festival Foods and Nestlé Purina PetCare has raised $11,752 to boost food and supply levels at Wisconsin animal shelters.
In September, Purina matched every donation that Festival Foods guests made to our Paw Away Hunger program, which offers shoppers the option of adding a $5 or $10 donation to their Festival Foods grocery totals. Festival Foods passes along 100 percent of Paw Away Hunger donations to animal organizations throughout Wisconsin. All donations are distributed – in the form of products – in the communities where they were collected.
A sister program of Paw Away Hunger called Food for Neighbors supports food pantries in communities served by Festival Foods. The two programs currently provide donations to approximately 40 Wisconsin food pantries and 30 Wisconsin animal organizations.
Since it began nine years ago, Paw Away Hunger has collected and distributed close to $272,000. In addition, Food for Neighbors has collected nearly $1.3 million for food pantries since it began in 2004.
“It’s such an honor to watch these programs grow,” said Mark Skogen, president and CEO of Festival Foods. “We administer these programs but it’s really about people serving people – and pets. I like to say we’re the steward who gets the money where it’s needed. The real thank you goes to those who donate at the checkouts.”
Purina will further support Wisconsin pets by providing a coupon for $1 off Beggin’ Strips to every participant who registers a dog for the Dog Jog, part of the Festival Foods Turkey Trot held at locations across the state on Thanksgiving Day.
In northeast Wisconsin, we were so thrilled to work with NBC26 in Green Bay for its sponsorship and promotion of Paw Away Hunger and Food for Neighbors in the region. On the other side of the state -- in western Wisconsin -- we got to work with FOX 2548 in La Crosse and Eau Claire for its sponsorship and promotion of these programs.
