‘Festival Foods’ bagger could be the nation’s best

We know Festival Foods has great baggers at our stores across the state, but now one of our baggers may officially be the best in the country.

Mai, a bagger at the Festival Foods in Sheboygan, will be among nearly 30 baggers from across the country participating in the National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship on February 9 at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. Mai beat out the in-state competition at the Great Wisconsin Bag-Off at the Innovation Expo in October.

Bagging is a tough job and Mai has been doing a lot of practicing – both at the store and even when she’s not at work. Jennifer, Mai’s supervisor, said Mai is getting plenty of practice before the big competition. The winner takes home a grand prize of $10,000.

“We are scheduling practice sessions for her every couple of days, plus she jumps in whenever she can to help the baggers. Mai is taking her mom, two aunts and two friends along to Las Vegas, making it a mini vacation.  They will be staying an extra four to five days after the competition. Mai is very excited for the opportunity.”

The 10-day countdown to the competition is officially underway. We are excited to cheer on Mai from more than 1,000 miles away. We’re sending our well wishes from the frozen tundra in Wisconsin to the Mirage in Las Vegas. We hope everyone joins us in saying ‘Go Mai! Go!’
