Beet Hummus #festfoods So, we all love hummus, right?  Well this is probably my most favorite hummus recipe, ever.  It has all of the traditional hummus ingredients, but with BEETS.  And cloves and cinnamon.  You really can’t go wrong with that combination!  Served with pita chips and veggies, this is the perfect appetizer or snack {and the color of it is just magnificent}. Trust us, it really is easy. Just watch as our dietitians walk you through this great-tasting recipe:


If you’ve never heard of or had tahini before, it’s sesame seed paste, so it’s very similar to peanut butter.  It gives hummus its distinct texture and flavor, so it’s definitely a necessary ingredient in this recipe {and it’s super good for you}!  And you can find it in our Natural/Organic aisle at Festival Foods, or with the peanut butters. Another great thing about this recipe: you don’t have to go through the hassle of peeling and cooking fresh beets, {unless you just really want to}, you can just use canned beets {whoo hoo}! Beet Hummus #festfoods So to get started, combine the beets, garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon and spices in the food processor. Beet Hummus #festfoods Puree the mixture while drizzling in the olive oil, until you’ve reached the desired consistency.  Taste and adjust seasoning, if necessary. {I know I always tell you this, but it’s the most important step:)} Beet Hummus #festfoods The hummus is ready to eat!  Or you can just stare at it because the color is so mesmerizing! Beet Hummus  


15 oz. can beets

15 oz. can garbanzo beans

¼ cup tahini (sesame seed paste)

Zest and juice of 1 lemon

¼ tsp. cinnamon

Pinch ground cloves

Pinch coarse salt

4-6 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil  


  1. Combine all ingredients, except oil, in a food processor. Puree while drizzling oil through vegetable shoot, until desired consistency is reached.  Taste and adjust seasoning, if necessary.
  2. Serve!
