Festival Foods

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference” — Winston Churchill

I was recently having a discussion with an associate who was looking to grow within our company when he asked me “How did you get your start with Festival?” The question sort of caught me off guard and I think I just sat there with a smile on my face, for a minute, while I reminisced in my mind the timeline of events. You see, in my mind, I just started at Festival… but in reality I will celebrate my 10 year anniversary with the company in November. Where or where did the time go? As I drove home that day I got to thinking about all of the wonderful people I get to work with each and every day. Each one of us has a unique story to tell about how we arrived at the doors of Festival. When I reflected on some of the long tenured associates that I work with, the number 1 thing that stuck out to me with all of them was their positive, can do “attitude.” You ask “Why does attitude matter?” Attitude is essential to our success because it affects our beliefs and behaviors. As a result, attitude impacts our ability to handle teamwork, customer service, and the fast paced environment of our grocery store.

In a nutshell, attitude matters because people matter. The attitude of the people we hire today will reflect in how successful we are in the future. Now I am not saying hiring someone with a great attitude will make them a great grocer but it is a great start. Someone with the right attitude will be coachable and eager to learn; however, it is up to the leaders in our stores to provide the structure and materials for that person to develop their skills.

So, how did I end up at Festival? I was a vendor working with Festival and found myself drawn into the culture and decided I wanted to be a bigger part of this organization. Ask any one of our associates how they found themselves working at Festival and you will get many different answers. Festival associates come in all ages, abilities, and backgrounds but our common thread is a can-do attitude and doing whatever it takes to keep you coming back!
