Turkey Trot - A Thanksgiving Day Tradition
|
Turkey Trot #festfoods Can you believe Thanksgiving Day is less than a month away?! When most of us think of Thanksgiving, we think of family, turkey, football, and any other traditions we include as part of this holiday. Six years ago, a new tradition was added to Thanksgiving Day in many of our communities--- the Turkey Trot! Last week, Festival Foods employees were encouraged to wear Turkey Trot t-shirts to promote the event and encourage any interested participants to register early. It’s always nice to be able to wear t-shirts to work, and we found wearing t-shirts (some that were BRIGHT orange!) sparked conversation with guests, both those who have participated in the race in previous years, and those interested in learning more about the event. Several guests have collected all 5 t-shirts, and said they enjoy the camaraderie and adrenaline rush on Thanksgiving morning.  Although late November in Wisconsin can be frigid cold and snowy, it is clear that the weather doesn’t deter anyone from attending. Those of you who have participated in this event in the past already know that the Turkey Trot is a great way to kick-start Thanksgiving Day with your family and friends. The 5 mile run starts promptly at 8am, followed by the 2 mile walk. All proceeds benefit the Boys and girls Club and YMCA in the local community. Not only is the Turkey Trot meant to be a fun event for participants of all ages and physical abilities, you also get a pie when you finish! The Turkey Trot has become such a popular event during the last 5 years that a “Dog Jog” has been added this year! The dog jog will begin at approximately 8:15 am, and is a 2 mile walk.  If you feel festive and would like to dress your dog for the occasion, there are bandanas available for purchase in our Festival Foods stores. Sign up online by November 20th to guarantee your t-shirt size. Participants are welcome to register for the Turkey Trot through Nov. 23, however, t-shirt sizes will not be guaranteed. You can also register on race day for $25 cash or check. For more information, visit www.festivalfoodsturkeytrot.com.
