The grocery industry…fast paced? You bet it is! It was just two weeks ago that I was talking about the recent Sheboygan announcement in my blog and now here I am sitting down to write to you about more exciting news for Festival Foods! We will be purchasing two (2) Quillin’s stores in La Crosse, located in the Shelby Mall and The Village. The Skogen and Quillin families have been selling groceries in the La Crosse area since the 1940’s and we are proud to be able to carry on the family grocery tradition with the purchase of these two stores. Our plan is to continue operating the Shelby Mall location through the fall of 2011. In the upcoming months, The Village store will close and be razed, followed by ground-up construction of a new 74,000 square-foot Festival Foods store. Once that new store in The Village opens this fall, the Shelby Mall location will close because it is not viable to operate three large stores in such close proximity. Our hope is that guests who currently shop at the Shelby Mall location will see the benefit of driving the 1.4 miles to the new store in The Village when it opens. The new store will offer a meat department featuring our exclusive signature items, fresh sushi created by an on-premises chef, a healthy choices salad bar, a hot foods bar, and an extensive homemade deli and prepared foods selection that utilizes fresh ingredients and original recipes. The new store will also have an expanded natural and organic foods selection, a wine and spirits shop, and custom catering services. Guests with children ages 18 months to 7 years will be able to take advantage of the Tot Spot, our free supervised in-store child care service, while shopping! In addition, the new store will have store banking services, a Degen Berglund Pharmacy and a Gundersen Lutheran ExpressCare Clinic. Just like Sheboygan, the purchase of the two Quillin’s stores and consequential new Festival Foods store in La Crosse will create a lot of great opportunities for our Festival teammates as well as the current Quillin’s associates. This coming year is shaping up to be another big year for Festival Foods and I can honestly say that I wouldn’t want it any other way!
